Ooblek

As we tried to stay warm this weekend we needed some inside entertainment. We made oobleck. It is a 2:1 ratio. 2 parts of cornstarch and one part water, you could add food coloring, but with my little peoples hands in it so much their hands started changing colors! So next time we will stick with white. We all had a blast playing with it!

Happy Birthday to me!

Here are some fabrics Miss A ( who is 4) picked out for me. I also got an awesome pair of pink flip flop slippers :)



Hubby cooked a delicious dinner of tuna steaks. A good friend dropped a present off , which was a wonderful surprise. And many birthday cards and calls. A great day overall - except for the bone chilling temperatures we are having. . . 6 degrees. . . brrrrrrr. . .

Storage Boxes

I made some storage boxes following Crazy Mom Quilts tutorial. I filled several with goodies and gave them to my niece and nephew for Christmas. These are the ones I kept for myself. The green ones are made with heavier decorator fabric and the blue ones are from an old skirt that I added interfacing to. They are so easy to make and I can see more in my future!



As you can see, they got filled up quickly!

Painting with Yogurt

This looks innocent enough. . . 6 colored containers of yogurt. . . 2 cookie trays. . . 2 kids. . .





And then it turns into this. . .


they both made such and mess ( and it came out of clothes beautifully!) and had so much fun. Mr P who is 2 was having more fun eating it ( once he figured out it was yogurt) and he looked like a Smurf at the end. We got the idea from here.

Pillowcase

I made this super easy pillowcase for Miss A's bed following this pattern. The bonus - all the fabric was found in the remnant bin so it cost under $2.

My First Quilt

Not my very first, but the first one all by myself. My friend, HobbyMommy, gave me some quilting lessons last Christmas. Actually, she is the one who started me onto the hobby of sewing. My mom sewed while I was growing up but I never truely appreciated the talent until I gave it a try. After several months of fighting with an old machine that was given to me, my husband got me a new machine for Mother's Day and that is where the fun began!



I started this quilt way back around Mother's Day and finished it right before Christmas. I made it for my daughter and everyday the question came " Mommy are you done with my blanket yet". No, it takes time I told her. Well, the time has come and Christmas morning she opened up her blanket and it was priceless.





I also made some matching pillows with the scraps.
