Spiral Beach Glass Picture

After a very busy weekend of yard work and 3 parties, I finally had time to get crafty. I really liked the beach glass pictures I made for other people. I decided to make some for me and do spirals. I made 2 of them. . .

They did take a bit more glass then the hearts, but I think well worth it. I really like them. Now I have to find some place to hang them. These are pretty small, maybe 6", and I would love to try this on a larger scale. I guess we better keep collecting!

Beach Glass Pictures

I have been wondering what I was going to do with all the teeny, tiny pieces of beach glass that we have been finding, other then sticking them in a container to look at. I saw this idea on One Pretty Thing. I didn't really read to see how she did it but I found some shadow box type frames at our local "dollar store", some card stock, the good old glue gun and beach glass.

I drew an outline of a heart very lightly with a pencil and then I started gluing the glass. I found it easier to put the glue on the glass then you don't have all those strings from the glue going across your paper.

Then I glued the paper to the backing of the frame. . .

I really like how these turned out. I made one for my mom for Mother's Day and one for Miss A's teacher who is retiring this year. Now I have to go find some more frames for me!

Finally. . .

Finally yesterday felt like spring! We took a trip to the zoo and then to our beach to have a treasure hunt. This is what we found . . .
As you can see lots of beautiful beach glass. We found our first piece of bright yellow glass. Miss A also found a piece of milk glass and what looks to be a piece of pottery. One side is white with a red circle in it and the other side has red stripes - it is the neatest piece! The top left if a piece of drift would that looks like the skin of a giraffe - that Miss A found. She also found the cool rock, but Mr P instantly picked it up and pointed it like a gun. Which I find interesting since we have no play guns or watch anything with guns - boys! It must be from those cousins of his :)

Jewels of the Lake

As a last minute gift idea for my sisters I decided to take our jewels of the lake, beach glass, and turn them into key chains. Living close to the shore of Lake Erie gave us a place to have endless treasure hunts all summer long. It is relaxing for me to sit in the sand and dig and the kids really do think they are on a treasure hunt! It is so fun to find the next jewel and imagine where it came from. Next I am going to try and make some anklets.
